Julie Wilhoit is a native of Claiborne County having graduated from Forge Ridge High School in the class of 1988. She also attended Powell Valley for some of her elementary school years while her mother was the assistant principal. She attended Lincoln Memorial University (LMU), earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work and a degree in Gerontology in 1992. She received a Masters of Education in Counseling and Guidance from LMU in 1997.
Julie has worked over 8 years as a social worker in several different healthcare facilities and 3 years at a psychiatric center doing intakes and counseling. In 2001, Julie earned an Educational Specialist degree in Counseling and Guidance from LMU.
Julie has been the Powell Valley School Counselor and the First Priority Club Faculty Sponsor for over 25 years. In the past, she was also split to Springdale Elementary school for two years and then to Forge Ridge one year. She currently serves at Powell Valley four days and at Clairfield Elementary School one day a week.
She was active in the Baptist Student Union at LMU where she met her husband David. David and Julie have been married for 32 years and have four children: Hannah, Hunter, Colton, and JJ.
As a school counselor, Julie enjoys spending time with her students, having small groups, using creative/play counseling techniques, and teaching classroom guidance lessons.
